Professor Hou Zhenting won the 13th 'Hua Luogeng prize in Mathematics'

The annual meeting of the Chinese Mathematical Society was opened in Xiangtan, Hunan on October 21th, 2017. Professor Hou Zhenting, doctoral advisor of School of mathematics and statistics of Central South University, won the thirteenth "Hua Luogeng prize in mathematics" at this meeting.




Background:

Hua Luogeng, or Hua Loo-gehng (Chinese:华罗庚; Wade–Giles: Hua Lo-keng; 12 November 1910-12 June 1985), was a Chinese mathematician famous for his important contributions to number theory and for his role as the leader of mathematics research and education in the People's Republic of China. In order to remember the great achievements of Mr. Hua Luogeng, encourage mathematicians to make outstanding contributions to the development of mathematics, and promote the development of mathematics in China, the Chinese Mathematics Association and the Hunan Education Press decided to set up the "Hua Luogeng prize for mathematics", which is awarded every two years. The award is for mathematicians in China who have made outstanding academic achievements in the field of mathematics and funded by the Hunan Education Press, which is keen to develop our mathematics career. The Hua Luogeng prize in mathematics is established since 1992, and has been held for twelve consecutive sessions, with no more than 2 people per session, with a bonus of 100 thousand yuan per person.
